Our philosophy

We value the importance of Early Childhood Education in our quality home environments. Our small mixed aged groups mean strong, respectful relationships become the foundations of a fun, play based programmes that are guided by Te Whāriki our Early Childhood curriculum.
We believe that tamariki are our taonga and the foundations for learning are built within our learning communities.
We recognise our role is to support Educators/Nannies and Whanau to work in partnership to enhance the learning of their tamariki and create a dynamic community of learners.
We celebrate the uniqueness of all our tamariki, parents/whanau and Educators/Nannies. We offer diversity within our homes and curriculum.
We acknowledge, recognise and celebrate Te Tiriti O Waitangi and all ethnic groups of Aotearoa and weave our tamariki’s cultural identity, heritage and language through our curriculum.
We are committed to supporting our Educators/Nannies to have the knowledge, skills and resources to provide a curriculum that empowers all tamariki to learn and grow.
We are passionate about keeping up to date with current theory and practice to ensure we are a support service that provides the best possible outcomes for our tamariki, parents/whanau and Educators/Nannies.

Our curriculum
Home Grown Kids is committed to offering an excellent home-based education programme that reflects our New Zealand ECE curriculum – Te Whāriki. Every home based Educator includes social, play and educational activities around the children’s individual interests, strengths and cultural needs. Plus, we get out and about in the wider world!

PLAYGROUPS:
Home Grown Kids offers fun, free, regular playgroups run by our Visiting Teachers. Individualised to suit the children in each group, they’re an opportunity to interact with other children and engage in activities such as music and movement, art and craft and messy play in a bigger or different space.

COMMUNITY OUTINGS:
Getting out into the community is fun. Educators take children to the library, gymnastics, music groups and trips to local parks and beaches.
Our Visiting Teachers also arrange regular exciting outings into the community to extend children’s focus. These include trips to the fire station, art galleries, farm visits and the zoo.
TE WHĀRIKI – OUR NATIONAL ECE CURRICULUM:
“Te Whāriki is underpinned by a vision for children who are competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” Ministry of Education, New Zealand.
Educators in partnership with children, their families, communities and the Visiting Teacher will plan and implement a programme that follows our national ECE curriculum of Te Whāriki, strengthening the child’s knowledge and experiences and empowering them to be lifelong learners.

Parent resources:
We keep the paperwork, screen time and admin to a minimum so you can spend your downtime with your family.
PAYROLL SUPPORT
Home Grown Kids provides a payroll service to families employing a Nanny who is also a part of our education programme. Families log in fortnightly to our own Homezone software, upload a timesheet for their Nanny and we handle the rest – payment to your Nanny, payslips and PAYE.
STORYPARK
Free for all parents, Storypark is an online tool that provides real-time feedback on your child’s learning. Your child’s Educator or Nanny will upload photos, videos and updates for you to view from wherever you are. You can provide instant feedback and engage in your child’s learning.
Invited family and friends, anywhere in the world, can understand, comment and engage in a child’s education, helping support their learning and development. Trust us, Nana will love it!
