Lower Hutt, Wellington
Donna is mum to 3 girls. She has been an Educator since mid 2015 and joined Home Grown Kids mid 2016. She is an active member at her local playcentre and has a wealth of knowledge about children and how they grow and learn.
Lower Hutt, lower slopes of Maungaraki
Donna provides an inviting, warm, loving home away from home. She has excellent resources and toys. Natural materials are used and activities are set up to provoke interest. The old tea set or the wooden rings, the wooden farm yard or the massive duplo set are among the many play objects.
Outside is a large backyard with a beautiful sheltered deck, a vegetable garden, trampoline and lots of space to kick a ball, hit the swing ball or climb across the wooden logs. At the end of the street is a local park and just down the hill within easy walking distance is Percy’s reserve.
ACTIVITIES THEY PROVIDE:
Days are full of familiar routines, such as attending local music and playgroups, and making the most of the local environment; getting out and exploring the bush and parks together. Children find warm familiar settings and routines give them a base to step out and take risks, laugh, and try something new. They sing, dance, make, paint and do all the little everyday things a family does together.
Building relationships with children means I start to see the world from their perspective, and can delight in the same small pleasures – rolling down a grassy bank, spotting the weekly recycling truck arrive on time and enjoying some baking or a meal that we made together. Seeing children develop their own passions, and grow in their friendships with each other, really is a privilege.
