Jo has been involved in home based childcare for 12 years. She has a Level 3 New Zealand Nanny Certificate, is fully First Aid trained, and is going to be embarking on her Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood during the coming year.
Jo’s home environment is likened to ‘a home away from home’. It is purposely set up for children, well thought out (with the added bonus of a dedicated play room) which provides the opportunity for the children to choose their own meaningful play. Jo has a passion for nature and the outdoors, and this is represented with her incredible back yard set up for the little ones, with the freedom to explore to their hearts content, and engage in lots of fun gross (large) motor activities within a safe setting.
ACTIVITIES THEY PROVIDE:
Jo is one in a million, when it comes to activities for the children within her care. She genuinely follows each child’s individual interests, and extends upon these, through language/literacy, hands-on exploration, etc to make the learning meaningful for each child, but in a fun, relaxed way. She attends many outings including Crazy Craft, music and outings, enjoys taking the children out and about within their community, in particular to a local Rest Home, which brings so much love and joy to the residents. Jo recognises the learning that occurs through these experiences, and captures those moments through various documentation.
Jo is a kind, caring, creative, gentle and extremely passionate Educator, and this is evident in her own practice. Jo encourages children to develop their independence skills both physically and emotionally. She achieves this through gentle guidance and support.
Jo is a natural at building strong relationships with children and their whanau, and firmly believes that relationships lay the foundation for continued, settled and happy children. Jo’s passion is to create a loving, caring and stimulating environment. Jo forms friendships with all families (and they just love attending Jo’s Easter and Christmas parties with their little ones) and still keeps in touch with those who have since moved on to school.
