Susan is a mother of two girls. Raising her children through play centre has been the foundation for providing a nurturing and creative home environment. Susan has been a dedicated Educator for Home Grown Kids for over two years where she has had an opportunity to use her wonderful Early Childhood skills within her own home. She has traveled and worked as a professional Nanny too, travelling around the UK with families of preschoolers and babies. Susan has also worked as a Teacher Aid at a local primary school supporting children with special needs.
Susan’s home environment offers an open plan living area and kitchen that leads out to a closed deck. A spacious garden with fruit trees and lawn area is also accessible to children to offer imaginary play experiences and quiet time. The back deck is set up for stimulating play experiences such as sand and water play and good old messy play!
Susan is walking distance to lovely Palm Beach and the playground. Susan values nature and likes to offer her tamariki a balance of indoor/outdoor play experiences.
Susan has a dog called Otis who loves young children and recently she has adopted a playful little kitten! Her home is very ‘animal friendly’.
Susan loves to read with her tamariki as she understands the importance of early literacy experiences. She offers other art experiences such as drawing and painting, collage activities and baking.
Susan likes to connect with the wider world by attending activities outside the home. Walks on the beach and visiting parks is very much part of Susan’s weekly routine. She participates in the monthly HGK outings and is willing to offer her families and children the flexibility of home life and community connections such as library experiences and music groups. “It is a lovely balance for the children” she explains.
Susan values explorative play where tamariki thrive in an environment that is stimulating and fun. In relation to her Playcentre philosophy, Susan believes that children learn best through ‘hands on’ child initiated play.
Susan also supports the idea that all children learn at a different pace and by providing them with an environment that is supportive, warm and caring, children can grow and develop to their full potential.
