Tenaia is a mother of two preschoolers. She is highly respected within her local community and is actively involved in numerous groups and clubs on Waiheke Island. Tenaia is an experienced horse rider and is involved in the Pony Club. She shares her knowledge and experiences with young children and families and runs courses to encourage education and involvement.
She is also involved in local ECE play groups in her community and runs her own play gym in the winter, supporting other like minded parents with young children. Tenaia has years of childcare experience behind her and she holds a New Zealand Nanny Certificate. She has nannied both in NZ and overseas for a total of 25 years, 10 years overseas in the U.K. And Europe. She has numerous stories to share of her wonderful experiences working for families from other cultures and backgrounds.
Tenaia’s home environment is very child friendly and stimulating. She has a spacious backyard with swings and a sandpit. She is very aware of the importance of children learning through their own experiences and always provides an environment that is fun and at the same time challenging. Tenaia loves animals and has a kitten and a horse. She is very passionate about nature and enjoys bush walks and excursions to the lovely Waiheke beaches. She is very resourceful and likes to involve her tamariki in creative activities using natural resources from Papatuanuku.
In Tenaia’s words “Children are our eyes and ears, they mirror our every action and learn through play and imagination”. She believes that it is the role of the adult to enhance children’s learning and to guide them through life so they can reach their best potential. “We as adults are such an important part in who they become”.
